Wingate lived at Percy Lodge, 22 Wylde Street Potts Point from at least 1858 until his death in 1869. All the Potts Point photographs appear to be taken from his house.
The image of soldiers at Victoria Barracks depicts members of the newly formed 1st Regiment New South Wales Rifle Volunteers, probably on 18 May 1861, the day they received their colours. Major Thomas Wingate was Commanding Officer.
