  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Hugh Joseph Ward (1871-1941), actor and theatrical entrepreneur, was managing director of J.C. Williamson Firm from 1913-1922. After resigning in 1922, he set up Hugh J. Ward Theatres Pty Ltd in partnership with the Fullers. His Company of Comedians toured Australia between 1922-1925, performing musical comedies the O’Brien Girl, Little Nelly Kelly and Tangerine. Comedian Ireland Cutter starred in many of these with his wife Maudie Vera (Maud Vera).

Contains photographs of Maimee Watson, Robert Jackson, Lou Vernon, June Roberts, Ireland Cutter, Ena Dale, Maudie Vera, Alex M’pherson, Leyland Hodgson, Westley Pierce.
