    George Manwarren Larkin was born on Wallangambone Station in the Macquarie Marshes in 1915. The property was owned by the Green family and managed by his father Patrick Larkin who married Jane Green in 1902. Following the death of his mother in 1917 George and his brothers and sisters went to live with their grandparents William and Julia Larkin in Penrith. The family later moved to Homebush. George and his two brothers returned to work in the Macquarie Marshes region, and later on properties near Bonshaw on the New South Wales / Queensland border. During the Second World War, George spent several years as a prisoner of war in Germany. In 1950 he married Joan McLaren. They had two sons, Anthony (Tony) and David. For several years they owned Calumet near Bonshaw before moving to Sydney in the late 1950s.
