Historical notes by artist, inscribed in ink on label affixed to reverse of mount: ""The George Inn" Picton. The first hotel in Picton, built by George Harper in 1839 (altho' some parts bear the date 1819).(It has since this drawing was made been altered out of recognition, with tiled roof & wide verandahs). It is interesting from the point of construction. Thick stone walls beautifully masoned & the old skittle alleys. There have been no less than 15 proprietors since 1839. The present one Smith who is purchasing the building intends to have it restored to the state it was in in 1839. M. J. MacNally Dec 1932"
