  • Scope and Content
Some of the women interviewed are well known and have achieved much in the public arena. Some are unknown outside their own circle of family and friends. Some, like Eve Mahlab, Wendy McCarthy and Quentin Bryce combined a career with family obligations from the very first. Some, like Jeannette McHugh and Helen Leonard fulfilled a traditional role for most of their adult life and only moved out of that role later. Some, like Anne Ferguson, pursued a career, but later had the freedom to follow their own creativity. Some, like Sara Henderson and Kendra Sundquist, are energetically determined to achieve as much as they can after many years of suppressing their own talents and ambitions. Some, like Nene King, have opted out of super-achievement because they consider the cost to personal life too high. Jan Bowen's book, 'The Fabulous Fifties' was published in 1995.
