- Physical Description1 drawing - 26.5 x 43.5 cm. - pencil and wash
- Scope and ContentThe drawing depicts the original cottage at Vineyard as well as the house built by John Verge for Hannibal Hawkins Macarthur in 1836. Home to the Macarthur family, Vineyard was one of the leading colonial properties of it's time. The watercolour shows the view from Parramatta River, with the wharf in the foreground.

Please acknowledge:: Mitchell Library, State Library of New South Wales - General note
The watercolour's aspect is similar to a stereograph photograph of Vineyard in the Macarthur family album (PXA 4358 v.1) which is dated 1858-1860 (by the Curator of Photographs). The watercolour was probably painted prior to this date as the vegetation is less dense than that depicted in the stereograph. A watermark is evident; "Whatman, Turkey Mill", with the top of the date visible, which appears to be "1851". The watercolour is then probably dated between 1851 and 1858.
