  • General note

Freycinet family tradition dates this pastel to 1794. Henri de Freycinet (1777-1840) was the elder brother of Louis de Freycinet and accompanied him as an ensign on Nicolas Baudin's expedition of 1800-1804. It is said that he led the first shore party of the Baudin expedition on Australian soil in May 1801, at Geographe Bay.
