  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    In 1907, Robert Glendon Scott took five wickets with five consecutive balls playing for Newington College, Sydney, against The King's School, Parramatta. This is the ball used for the remarkable feat, mounted with silver. Reference: Exhibition caption, 'Stories in Silver', State Library of New South Wales, 1996.

    The initails "R.C.V.T.K.S" in the inscription represent Newington College Versus The Kings School.
    The cricket ball was originally received in a canvas bag with a note by the donor. The note is located with the ball.

    Engraved on silver band, "Presented to / R.G. Scott / for taking 5 Wickets / in 5 Successive BALLS for / N.C.V.T.K.S. / 1907"
    The silver band bears hallmarks: 'H.P & S.S.' [Henry Perkins & Sons, Birmingham, U.K.], [Anchor symbol], [Lion passant symbol], 'b' [date letter]. It can be dated as 1901 (presumably the silver band was not originally made for this purpose).
