    18 of the sketches are initialled "J.T.D." or "S.T.G." & f.41 contains both initials
    This sketchbook was originally intended as a joint publishing venture between professional artist Samuel Thomas Gill & amateur watercolourist Dr John Thomas Doyle. However the project to produce a lavish lithographed sketchbook was never completed. For further information on the association between Gill and Doyle, as well as a critique of the drawings, see Dr. Doyle's sketches in Australia : a collection of prints from the original watercolour drawings in the Mitchell Library / S.T. Gill ; with notes on the drawings and an historical account of the association between S.T. Gill and Dr. J.T. Doyle by Sasha Grishin. Sydney : Mitchell Library Press and Centaur Press, 1993.
