Stephen Gard (born in 1952) is an educational writer of fact and fiction. He has also written children's plays, resource books for teachers, and books on Australian history as well as composing music.

Stephen became interested in theatre in 1968, joining the Grosvenor Players at the Wayside Chapel. In 1970 he moved to the New Theatre in Newtown, where he continued his involvement with children's theatre. In 1977 Stephen was appointed to a one-teacher school in the South West Riverina, and he joined the Deniliquin Dramatic Club.

Amongst his musical works, Stephen has written scores for two short movies by director Chris Noonan, and as an Honours student majoring in Music Composition was the focus of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Composer Dialogue.

Stephen's aunt was Dorothy Helmrich (1889-1984), the singer and arts administrator.
