Eliza Barrett was possibly born in Peckham Rye, England in 1814. She was sentenced for robbery on the 9th April 1832 and then transported to the Colonies on board the ship `Fanny'. She married George Sherer in 1833 and was later reported as missing after having stowed away on board the `Palmer' in October 1835. After the birth of her daughter Eliza Frances Sherar on the 9th December 1835 they were were kept in prison at the Cape for 20 months before being transported back to Sydney on board the `Henry Wellesley' arriving in Port Jackson on the 22nd December 1837. At her indictment it was discovered that the escape from transportation was a felony punishable by 14 years was only applicable to males. Eliza served 12 months from May 1838 before she reunited with her husband George to have three more children. Eliza Olive Sherar obtained her certificate of freedom on 21 March 1842 and died on the 4th September 1885 from senile decay. - Scope and ContentContains 1 CD-ROM and a printed copy of research concerning the convict Eliza Olive Barrett who was transported to Australia in 1832 compiled by Glenda Bone-Gault
