Keith Hargrave Blaxland was a great-grandson of the explorer Gregory Blaxland who with William Charles Wentworth and William Lawson crossed the Blue Mountains in 1813. He was President of the Mount Blaxland Landmark Committee set up in the mid-1960s to raise funds for a suitable marker on Mount Blaxland to commemorate the most westerly point reached by the explorers. The Mount Blaxland Landmark was officially opened by the Governor of N.S.W., Sir Roden Cutler, on 2 Nov. 1968. In 1969 Blaxland published a booklet about the landmark. The final meeting of the Committee was held on 21 Feb. 1970.

On 19 Oct. 1962 at a public meeting in Springwood called by the Mayor of Blue Mountains City Council, Keith Blaxland was elected Chairman of the Blue Mountains Sesqui-Centenary Celebrations (East Ward Committee). The final meeting of the Committee was held on 20 Jan. 1964.

Blaxland was also a keen gold and mineral prospector who on 3 Nov. 1969 formed a syndicate to investigate a reef he had discovered in the New England region.
