Pearl Goldman was born at Bondi on 12 April 1918, the daughter of Londoner Gertrude and Joseph Schweig. In 1937, Pearl won the Bondi Surf Queen competition which brought her to the attention of the artist Norman Lindsay who requested to paint her. She became a central figure in several of his most famous works such as 'The Amazons', 'Imperia' and 'Gifts to Venus'. Pearl's career then developed as a fashion model, showgirl and actor.

In 1946, Pearl married Maurice Copolov who owned furniture stores in Melbourne. They had two sons, David and Mark. Maurice died in 1967. Two years later in New York, Pearl met Sidney Goldman who was Vice-President of Radio City Music Hall. They married in November 1969. The couple lived in New York and attended many celebrity functions. Following Sidney's retirement, they lived in Santa Monica for almost 15 years and then moved to the Gold Coast, Australia. Sidney died in 1994.
