  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    John Alfred Brodie (1908-1996) studied mechanical and electrical engineering at the University of Sydney, graduating in 1934 with first class honours. He was chief engineer at the chemical company Timbrol Limited, located at Rhodes in western Sydney, remaining with the company through its takeover by Union Carbide in 1958 and until his retirement in 1973. Brodie was a councillor of Engineers Australia from 1967 to 1971. His design for the Brodie Purifier, a continuous crystallisation plant, was awarded the Prince Philip Prize for Australian Design in 1972. His book ‘Australia’s Engineering Milestones – The Chemical Industry’ was privately published in 1987.
