    Roy Maling was born in Sydney, N.S.W. in 1901. He studied composition under Alfred Hill at the New South Wales State Conservatorium of Music, Sydney. On 17 June 1933, his ballet Roksanda was premiered at the Sydney Conservatorium, being reputed to be the first ballet by an Australian to be performed
