  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    George Howe, editor and printer, was born in the West Indies in 1769. He went to London, and in 1800 was transported to New South Wales. He became Government Printer and later published the Sydney Gazette. In 1806, he received a full pardon and began publishing the 'New South Wales Pocket Almanack'. He married Sarah Wills, widow of Edward Wills, and died in 1821. He was survived by sons Robert Howe and Horatio Howe Wills, two daughters and four illegitimate children. Edward and Sarah Wills had five children. Robert Howe, who was drowned in 1829, had an illegitimate son, Robert (commonly called Charles Robert) and three daughters
