  • Scope and Content
    Begins with "Barometrical observations made during the journey into the interior of New South Wales in Winter 1836", March 20-April 30; and journal (continuing from C 54), 13 August-3 November 1836. Describes meeting the Henty brothers at Portland Bay, 29 August; the injured Aboriginal girl, Ballandella, being entrusted to Mitchell's care by her mother, Turandurey, 19 September. With sketches of views; "Malga of the coast natives".

    Beginning from the end of volume are 4pp. draft of journal of 1835 expedition, beginning at Boree, 5 April; followed by "Meteorological Journal during a journey into the Interior [of] N.S. Wales 1836"; and 7 pp. draft of letter written in camp on the Murrumbidgee, 24 October 1836, "to report on the result of the Expedition".

    Mitchell's journals were published as Three expeditions into the interior of eastern Australia : with descriptions of the recently explored region of Australia Felix, and of the present colony of New South Wales / by T.L. Mitchell (London : T. & W. Boone, 1838). The published version differs considerably from the original journals.
