  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    The Perkins family settled in the Cobargo district in 1898, at Morwenstowe homestead on Wallaga Lake. In 1898 Mrs Perkins is recorded as a school teacher at public school in Cobargo, where her daughter Ivy Perkins attended school. Ivy Perkins later became a school teacher in Corunna, north of Tilba Tilba. In 1909 she married Ernest Napthali at Morwenstowe homestead. The Tilba Tilba and Wallaga Lake area is home to the traditional owners the Yuin people.

  • Collection history
    By descent through the Perkins family in the United States until around 2010, when the photographs were sold in a charity auction. Then purchased by the previous owner in New York, 2011.
  • Scope and Content
    13 albumen silver photographs taken by the Perkins family, in and around the remote Wallaga Lake, Tilba Tilba and Cobargo region of New South Wales, between ca. 1900-ca. 1909. Includes family and group portraits, several views of the family homestead, school groups, farming and land clearing, and various boating activities on the lake, family outings and views of Cobargo and the Tumut River.

    All of the images have inscriptions in ink on the verso and 2 have been mounted on card.
