  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

The artist of these watercolours is thought to be Elizabeth Ann Bisdee (1821-1910) who married George Thorne in Hobart in 1842, and later settled in Rose Bay, Sydney. Her daughter Rosalie Ann Thorne (1850-1927), also an amateur artist, married Francis Watkins, a naturalist, and resided at Penrose, Parramatta. Botanical illustration was an interest in the family, and Rosalie’s daughter Dorothy Watkins (1892-1913) was also a botanical illustrator. The original watercolours were compiled into a later scrap album and kept by Mrs Rosalie Ann Watkins (nee Thorne) in the Watkins family library, Parramatta and formed part of her estate.
