An unsigned and undated sketch titled ‘[Tahlee?] from the water’, depicting Tahlee with a boat in the foreground, has similarities to this painting. In 'Collection of sketches by J. W. Lewin, P. P. King, P. G. King and others, 1793-1850 (compiled in 1972)' (Mitchell Library call no. PX*D 379/22c).

Signed 'C. Martens' at lower right.
Inscription in ink verso of canvas covered over '[?] Lethbridge Esq. / from Phillip P. King / Sep 1849'.
'HS 574' inscribed on stretcher. CBUS and Deutscher and Hackett labels attached verso of frame.

Dated 1841 or 1842 from two views of Tahlee sold to Capt. P.P. King listed in Conrad Marten's 'Account of pictures painted at Sydney N.S. Wales' (Dixson Library call no. DLMS 142).
