  • Scope and Content
In this interview, Dr Margaret Leask speaks about her family background (which included her great-grandfather, map publisher H.E.C. Robinson, who was a close friend of the actress Nellie Stewart), her parents’ activities during World War 2, her own education and early career, which included four years with the AETT. She then recalls her career in England from 1978 to 1995, during which she worked for Live Music Now, the Arts Council of Great Britain, Westminster City Council, and the artist’s management company, Quadrivium.
Margaret also speaks about returning to Australia, working for Currency Press and being employed from 2003 to 2009 as a theatre researcher and from 2005 as an oral historian for the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA).
Toward the end of today’s interview, Margaret reflects on the value of oral history as a means of recording stories that might otherwise be lost and stresses the importance of thorough research, bringing energy to interviews, and being a ‘warm guide’ to interviewees.
