    Established in 1887, Walter Carter Funerals is one of Sydney’s oldest independent and family-owned funeral businesses which is still in operation today. English-born Walter Carter (1852-1934), a cabinet maker by trade, arrived in Australia in 1883 and established his own funeral company in 1887. He was also the Mayor of Waverley from 1902-1903.

    Hand-painted illuminated address presented to Walter Carter while he was Mayor of the Borough of Waverley in 1903. The address features watercolour illustrations of scenery and native flowers and is signed by his fellow aldermen.
