  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Philip Gidley King, 1817-1904, the eldest son of Phillip Parker and Harriet King sailed with his father in H.M.S. Adventure on a survey of South America from 1826 to 1830. In 1831 he continued on the Beagle in company with Charles Darwin. On his return to Australia in 1837 he followed mainly pastoral pursuits, and was a member of the Legislative Council from 1880 to 1904. He published his 'Comments on Cook's log...' in 1891 and wrote an unpublished memoir of Charles Darwin in 1892 (original held in the Mitchell Library at ZMLMSS 3447).
