The Davis sporting collection was largely compiled by John Corbett Davis (editor of The Referee, The Arrow & The Sunday Times from 1912-1939), Joseph J. Davis (brother of J.C. Davis) and Vincent C. Davis (son of J.C. Davis). John Corbett Davis was born on 11 April 1868 in Araluen, N.S.W.

A contents list for the pictorial material is available in the Mitchell Library Reading Room at PXE 653. The list was compiled from the annotations on the reverse of the photoprints which includes some titles, dates and place names. The annotations were difficult to transcribe and identifications remain unverified.
The collection includes Australian and international material.

This collection comprises 71 record series.
