    Alexander Gray (1844-1927?) born at Windsor, N.S.W. was a race horse trainer and invented the strand type starting barrier, first used at Canterbury Park, 1891. His son, Reuben, was a jockey who turned to a singing career. On his father's death, he took over the barrier business, improved it and patented the six strand starting barrier
