  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

David Campese was born in Queanbeyan, NSW in 1962, the son of an Italian father who had migrated to Australia in the 1950s and an Australian mother. He first played rugby for Australia in 1982 against the New Zealand All Blacks. He has since played tests against all major rugby nations and was a member of the Grand Slam Wallabies of 1984 and the victorious World Cup Wallabies of 1991. He has played most of his international rugby as a winger although fullback is his preferred position. He holds the Australian record for test appearances, the world record for test tries and has been widely acclaimed for his brilliant attacking play which features electric pace and the famous 'goose step'. Since 1985 he has spent the Australian summer playing club rugby in Italy. His career has coincided with Australia's rise to pre-eminence in international rugby with Campese himself being generally considered the world's finest player.
