The family moved to Musswellbrook in 1871 where Robert was apprenticed to a carpenter. Robert married Harriet Noble in 1892. He became well known as a cabinetmaker and was responsible for many pieces of church furniture. In 1910 he settled in Haberfield where he took an active part in the life of the local church.
