The letter is written by Susannah Wise [Mrs James Snashall] to her brother John Wise and his wife in Widmore, Bromley, Kent. Susannah writes "...we have got little General Shop sell little of every thing and James [has] got situation in the Sheref [sic] office ... James goes to wait at all the partys there [Government House] and balls ...". - Scope and ContentThe letter requests news of family and friends in England, and tells of life in Sydney, the cost of living, unemployment, the forthcoming election, the kindness of the governor's wife, Lady Gipps, etc; and finishes "James joins in kind love with me ... from your ... Sister [and] Brother J.S. Snashall". Susannah began the letter on February 7th 1843, and added more on the 19th and 26th February 1843.
