The Pipi Storm Theatre Company was formed by a group of young teachers, actors and children’s workers in 1971 as the ‘Pipi Storm Children’s Circus’. The group performed circuses for children and adults at Public fairs and festivals. They also performed and presented workshops in primary schools in the city and country regions of NSW, with financial support of the Australia Council, Schools Commission and Premier’s Department.

In 1975 a group called ‘the Bunyip Children’s Band’ was formed, performing musical theatre for children. In 1978, Pipi Storm Circus and the Bunyip Children’s Band joined together and formed the company Pipi Storm Ltd, incorporating both performing groups and a Parks Program which was formed as a recreational workshop program for children on weekends and school holidays.

In 1979, Pipi Storm produced ‘True Love’, ‘Media Mania’ for high schools, and ‘Kids Kabaret’ and ‘Brigadier Blimp’s Big Elastic Band’ for primary schools. In 1980, it produced ‘The Silicon Chip Slipepry Dip’ for high schools and ‘Kids Kabaret Goes to Rio’ for primary schools.
