- ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY
Francis McCrae Cobham (1823-1902) was born in Barbados, educated in Scotland and came to Australia in 1839. In Melbourne he met up with his mother's McCrae relatives. He took up a grazing run, 'Burandudu', on the Upper Murray, and while there he married Catherine Synnot in 1851. Two years later, after the run had failed, he joined the Victorian Police. In 1863, while stationed at Swan Hill, he made the journey which is the subject of this diary. Cobham's great-grandson, Hadden Philip Mims, holds the original diary which was transcribed by his wife, Jeanne Mackay Mims. - Copying ConditionsCopyright restrictions may apply:
