    John O'Rourke was born in Bruff, Couny Limerick, Ireland, in 1860. After rejecton in the civil service he came to Australia in 1888 and worked as an articled clerk for a Sydney legal firm. He married Mary Augusta Nolan and they had seven children, the last of whom died in 1996.
