  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Gabriel de Milhau was a considerable landowner in the Languedoc region of France, on the Canal du Midi, with extensive vineyards. His home was Chateau de Paraza, in the village of the same name. He married Marie Adcock, who was born in Birmingham but educated in France. In 1838, they emigrated to New South Wales. With two other Frenchmen, they bought land in the Clarence district with the intention of running sheep. The property, called Ramornie, was sold after a few years as the venture proved a failure.
The Milhaus then moved to Kellett Street in Sydney. They built a home at Hunters Hill and called it Paraza. They finally settled in Bowral.
Gabriel and Marie had one daughter, Emilie, who married Justin Joseph Brenan. Emilie and Justin had two daughters, Gabrielle and Nora.
