  • General note

The view of Welaregang, or another version held in the Dixson Galleries (DG A8) appears to have been exhibited at the Calcutta International Exhibition of 1883. It is probable that the Mitchell Library's watercolour of "The Turning of the First Turf for the First Railway" (ML 244), and the Dixson Galleries panoramic drawings of Newcastle (DG A10) and Wollongong (DG A7) were also exhibited at this exhibition - see letterpress on page 1 of this volume.
According to the letterpress Rae made the outlines for these drawings with a "sketching camera" he had constructed
Panoramic photographs dated through letterpress on page 1
ca.1845 views of Sydney titled from another copy of the images at DL PX 41
    No. 15 identified by A.Hardy (late 2005).
No.14 is probably not Government House, Newcastle (previously thought to be Govt. House based on pencil note below the panorama at no.15.) No.15 dated from progress on the walls of Fort Scratchly -- Information supplied by K.Parsons (Mar 2006)
