  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Robert Gilfillan, 1823-1909, merchant and auditor, was born in Scotland, son of James Gilfillan and his wife Charlotte, nee Anderson. Robert Gilfillan arrived in Auckland in 1848 and established himself as a merchant and commission agent. He first travelled to Sydney in 1852 in order to sell goods. In 1853 he travelled to London where he married Margaret, nee Fraser, in 1854. In 1854 Robert and Margaret Gilfillan travelled to Sydney on the ship 'Royal Lily'.
