  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Suzanne Rutland (1946- ), nee Perlman, was born at Sydney, NSW. She was educated at the University of Sydney. Suzanne Rutland is Head of the Department of Semitic Studies at the University of Sydney. She is President of the Jewish Historical Society, a member of the New South Wales Jewish Board of Deputies and Vice-President of the Australian Association of Jewish Studies. Suzanne Rutland is the author of numerous books and articles on the history of the Jewish community in Australia, including: 'With One Voice: A History of the New South Wales Jewish Board of Deputies' (1998) with Sophie Caplan; ' Edge of the Diaspora: Two Centuries of Jewish Settlement in Australia' (1988); and 'Pages of History: a Century of the Australian Jewish Press' (1995). Suzanne Rutland has conducted interviews with members of the Jewish community during the course of her research. She has also made recordings of lectures and other material concerning the history of Judaism and the Jewish community in Australia.
