  • Scope and Content
    Included is one pencil sketch presented to John Vine Hall by a Mrs. Stratford, in 1864. Typed label on cover of sketchbook gives some information on the artist and her husband, and states that comments of approval on some of the sketches apparently made by John Vine Hall. Gold lettering on cover of sketchbook reads 'I.V.H.' the remainder of the name 'Hall' apparently broken off.

    Label affixed to cover: These sketches were evidently made by the wife of Captain John Vine Hall. Her name was Rebecca and she accompanied here husband on a voyage to Sydney in the "Black Nymph" -- 300 tons -- in 1841. He was Captain and part owner. Singapore was visited on the return voyage.
    Comments of approval on some of the sketches were evidently made by her husband who was stickler for exact detail.
