    `Edward Deas Thomson (1800-1879) came to the colony in 1829 to be the Clerk to the Executive and Legislative Councils ... John Verge designed Barham and the villa was built on the reserved subdivision in 1833. It was initally leased by Colonel Snodgrass (Lieutenant-Governor in late 1833. Thomson and his wife, Anne Maria then lived in Barham for over 40 years until Thomson's death in July 1879'
