The Hassall Family Bicentenary Committee was formed in 1992 comprising members of the Hassall family. The Committee proposed that a bicentenary celebration of the arrival of Rowland and Elizabeth Hassall in Australia in 1798 should be held in 1998. An Organising Committee was formed. The objectives of the Committee were to commemorate two hundred years in Australia of Rowland and Elizabeth Hassalls' descendants; to foster links and exchange information on the family; to investigate the contribution of Rowland and Elizabeth Hassall's descendants to Australia; and to produce and publish a family history. Between 1992 and 1998, various sub-committees were formed to assist with the planning of the bicentenary which was held over the weekend of 15 to 17 May 1998. 'The Hassall Family: Celebrating 200 Years in Australia 1798-1998' written by Jean Stewart and David J. Hassall was published in 1998.
