Gus O'Donnell (1912-1990) was a writer and Chairman of the Australian Society of Authors, 1966-1985, and a friend of the Australian poet James McAuley (1917-1976). Both men had served with the Australian New Guinea Administrative Unit during World War II, and had been on the staff of the Australian School of Pacific Administration, Sydney, in the immediate post-war years. - Scope and ContentInclude MS. poem 'A Letter to John Dryden' (20 pp.), 1953, by McAuley; letters received from McAuley, 26 July 1967, and 1979?, the latter being a critique of O'Donnell's poem 'Death'; and a first edition of McAuley's first book of poetry, Under Aldebaran (Melbourne University Press, 1946)
