  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Daniel Smith, International Ducks Unlimited Artist of the Year, was selected to paint the First of Nation Australian Duck Stamp. The First of Nation program, officially issued by the Australian National Parks and Wildlife Service, used revenues generated from the sale of duck stamps and prints for the study and implementation of strategies to preserve Australian wildlife and habitat threatened with extinction. Accompanied by rangers from the Australian National Parks and Wildlife Service, Daniel Smith studied animal, bird and plant life and chose to paint the Australian Plumed Whistling Duck as the subject of this First of Nation issue. -- information from presentation folder.

The Australian Wildlife Fund, which produced the prints, was incorporated in 1986 to provide funds for research projects of the Australian National Parks and Wildlife Service.
