  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Basil C. Dickinson (1915-) was born in Queanbeyan, New South Wales. He represented Australia in track and field at the Olympic Games (Berlin) in 1936 and at the British Empire Games (Sydney) in 1938. He later became an official at the Olympic Games (Melbourne) in 1956.

    OLYMPIC GAMES 1936 (Berlin)
    Diary written between 13 May-20th August 1936 with further notes added at a later date.
    Ephemera relating to the Olympics includes stationary from various hotels and restaurant menus of places visited. The postcard and letter card of the `S.S. Mongolia' contains autographs of the Australian Olympic Team
    Photograph album containing photographs of Basil Dickinson and members of the 1936 Australian Olympic Team. Also includes letters of introduction, identity card and ephemera (menus, invitations, tickets, stationary). 1 folder of photocopied official photographs of the Team's arrival and village activities.
    Thesis titled `Australia's participation in the Olympic and British Empire Games 1896-1938' written by William Wallace Dent. Submitted in 1987 for the Degree Master of Arts with Honours of the University of New England. Also includes a letter and survey (with responses) sent to Basil Dickinson.
    Scrapbook containing newscuttings concerning publicity of the Australian Olympic Team's arrival and participation in the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games.
