Daniel Woodriff (1756-1842) was a British naval officer who first came to Australia in 1792 in command of the small convict and supply ship Kitty. In 1803 he was in command of HMS Calcutta, escorting David Collins on his expedition to establish a settlement at Port Phillip Bay. When Collins transferred the settlement to the Derwent Woodriff sailed for Sydney where he played a role in the suppression of the Castle Hill convict uprising. Governor Philip Gidley King gave him a grant of land on the Nepean River at Penrith in 1804. He left Sydney in March 1804 and never returned. - Scope and ContentMostly legal documents relating to the history of Daniel Woodriff's grant of 1000 acres on the Nepean River (known as Rodley Farm) together with documents relating to other properties in the same region owned by Phillip Parker King and others. Also includes a note by the surveyor general Charles Grimes in 1806. A detailed list is included with the collection.
