E. Kennedy was one of a number of pseudonyms used by author and explorer Ernest Favenc who was born in Surrey, England and came to Australia in 1864. After working for some years on stations in North Queensland, he led the 1877 expedition to investigate the feasibility of a railway link between Queensland and Darwin. He subsequently assisted pastoral interests to open up country in the Gulf of Carpentaria, and joined the Sydney Evening News. Favenc wrote non-fiction (pastoral and geographic works), novels, short stories and one volume of poetry. - Scope and Contentca. 1900; Science fiction manuscript: 'A Secret of Science'. With corrections. 32 pages. Signed 'E. Kennedy'. Annotation in ink on page 1, probably in the hand of the author, reads: 'Journal of Ed'. Annotation in pencil on page 32, in the hand of D H Souter reads: 'Ernest Favenc. DHS'. [Souter was a senior figure with William Brooks & Co. in Sydney, publishers of the Australian Journal of Education during this period].
