  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

An Irish Shakespearean actor, Brooke arrived in Melbourne in 1855 to perform in George Coppin's prefabricated Olympic Theatre. In 1857 he and Coppin became partners operating several theatres including the Theatre Royal, Melbourne. He performed around Australia including Sydney's Theatre Royal between May-July 1858. Following financial distress however, the partnership was dissolved in 1859 and Brooke returned to England in 1861.
