"In Syrett's-lane we noticed one peculiarity in the houses, which we took as an indication of the disorderly character of the tenants - the lower panels of several of the doors were broken, having apparently been kicked in. These houses are also in a very dilapidated condition, and the sooner they are razed to the ground the better it will be for the neighbourhood." -- Excerpt from: Sydney City and Suburban Sewage and Health Board : Eleventh progress report. Evidence taken before No. 11 Committee / NSW Legislative Assembly. Sydney : Thomas Richards, Government Printer, 1876. p5. (Q628.0991/S Mitchell Library)
