    James Underwood was sentenced to transportation to NSW in 1786. His brother Joseph accompanied him as a free settler. The latter and his wife Elizabeth bought property at Petersham Hill, which they named Ashfield Park. James Underwood later acquired several properties in the City of Sydney and a distillery at South Head in partnership with Robert Cooper and Francis Ewen Forbes
