    Arrived in Sydney 1829 and established himself as a butcher in Goulburn St. In 1838 he purchased 3 acres of land at Surry Hill now the southern end of Bourke St, Redfern, and established a market and floral garden, which became known as 'Baptist's Garden'. His son, John Thomas, by a second marriage, inherited the land
