A. H. Davis, 1868-1935, writer of humorous sketches and novels under the pseudonym Steele Rudd, worked for the Queensland Public Service from 1886-1902. His father, Thomas Davis, was a selector at Emu Creek, Queensland

Xerox copies of letters of Arthur Hoey Davis and his family held at MLMSS 1817, and copy negatives of Rudd family photographs at ON 427, were made by Alan Queale for his friend Eric D. Davis, A. H. Davis's youngest son. Eric Davis had assembled the material while writing a biography of his father. Queale wrote to the Mitchell Library in May 1969 "Eric is writing a biography of his Dad and has collected an assortment of old family photographs and letters." Queale made the copies with Eric Davis's consent and presented them to the Mitchell Library on his behalf.

Queale wrote that he had enclosed an index to accompany the photonegatives, but this appears not to hve been received by the Library. Queale's numbering of the photonegatives has been preserved.
