The author of the journal and the ship from which he landed are unidentified. It was evidently a merchant vessel. Murray Island, Torres Strait, was discovered and named by Captain Edwards of H.M.S. Pandora in 1791 - Scope and ContentJournal relating to landings on Murray Island 2-7 June 1827, with an excerpt transcribed from a 'London magazine of April 1757' regarding the insectivorous plant, Nepenthes. Sketches. Detailed description of the natives, their customs and social life with profile sketch of the island, sketch of a native musical instrument and two sketches of Nepenthes
