P. M. Smith (d. 1972) possessed a typewriter which typed in the Shavian alphabet. She had transcribed the war diaries of her brother, Cecil Giffin, 1914-1918 into the Shavian alphabet - Scope and ContentPapers, mainly re Shavian alphabet and Quickscript, with further papers ca. 1931-1974, including a letter from P. H. Liddle, 1974.
Contents include correspondence relating to collections already catalogued, letters from Kingsley Read at MLMSS 2230, transcripts of war diaries, at MLMSS 1025, letters and diaries of work on Australia in the Shavian alphabet by John W. Whelan, and transcripts from the papers of John Maxwell, Bathurst, 1823-1825
